Bibimbap

Beberapa waktu lalu sempat ngiler dan kepingin banget makan bibimbap. Sampai akhirnya Jumat 2 minggu lalu duduk manis di pojokan Bulgogi Brothers Lotte Avenue sebelum balik ke rumah. 

Saya pesen bulgogi bimbap. Isinya nasi yang ditaruh di mangkuk panas dengan topping macam-macam sayuran (toge, wortel dan nggak tahu sayuran apa lagi), telur 3/4 matang dan beef bulgogi. Cara makannya, semua diaduk dan dikasih pasta gochujang. Tipikal restoran Korea, selain menu utama pasti akan disediain menu pelengkap gratis. Menu pelengkap yang saya dapet kimchi, asinan mangga, miso soup, kangkung dimasak pakai soy bean dan entah yang 1 nggak tahu namanya. Rasanya? Enak! Kenapa ya bisa ada makanan seenak itu?

Bibimbap (비빔밥, Korean pronunciation: [bibimbap],^[1] sometimes anglicized bi bim bap or bi bim bop) is a signature Korean dish. The word literally means "mixed rice". Bibimbap is served as a bowl of warm white rice topped with namul (sautéed and seasoned vegetables) and gochujang (chili pepper paste), soy sauce, or doenjang, a fermented soybean paste. A raw or fried egg and sliced meat (usually beef) are common additions. The hot dish is stirred together thoroughly just before eating.^[2]

In South Korea, Jeonju, Jinju, and Tongyeong are especially famous for their versions of bibimbap.^[3] In 2011, it was listed at number 40 on the World's 50 most delicious foods readers' poll compiled by CNN Travel.^[4]

The name bibimbap was adopted in the early 20th century. From the Joseon Period (1392–16th century) until the 20th century, Bibimbap was called goldongban, which means rice made by mixing various types of food. This dish was traditionally eaten on the eve of the lunar new year as the people at that time felt that they had to get rid of all of the leftover side dishes before the new year. The solution to this problem was to put all of the leftovers in a bowl of rice and to mix them together.^[5] Bibimbap is also thought to have been eaten by farmers during farming season as it was the easiest way to make food for a large amount of people.^{[citation needed]} Bibimbap, known as goldongban at that time, was served to the king usually as a lunch or an between-meal snack.^[6]

Bibimbap is first mentioned in the Siuijeonseo, an anonymous cookbook from the late 19th century.^[7][8] There its name is given as 부븸밥 (bubuimbap).^[9] Some scholars assert that bibimbap originates from the traditional practice of mixing all the food offerings made at an ancestral rite (jesa) in a bowl before partaking in it, while the consensus on origins of the dish lies with a Japanese influence, brought to the Korean peninsula via trade routes with Japan. ^[10]

Since the late 20th century, bibimbap has become widespread in different countries, due to its convenience of preparation. It is also served on many airlines connecting to South Korea. (sumber: wikipedia)

Floating Cruise

Ini masih cerita lanjutan jalan-jalan ke Bangkok Oktober kemarin.

9 Oktober
Jam 7 sudah siap di lobby hotel. Tunggu pesenan taksi yang akan anter kita ke Floating Market di Amphawang. Dari pagi sudah mulai gerimis. Perjalanan ke Amphawang ternyata jauh juga. Sekitar 4 jam. Untung di Amphawang nggak hujan. 

Cukup kaget juga begitu tahu kalau mau nikmatin pasar apungnya, kita mesti sewa perahu dengan pilihan 3 rute. Kecil, sedang dan besar. Karena Baht yang saya bawa pas-pasan, saya pilih rute sedang. Harganya THB 3000. Mungkin harusnya bisa patungan dengan turis lain supaya nggak mahal.

Dalam bayangan saya, pasar apung itu yang jualan semuanya pakai perahu. Ternyata mereka bikin toko di kanan kiri sungai. Tinggal berhenti dan tawar-menawar kalau minat. Ada sih yang jualan pakai perahu tapi sebatas jual makanan dan buah. Floating market ini hanya menarik kalau dikunjungi sekali aja.

Malamnya kita cruise dinner keliling Chao Phraya. Sempat deg-degan takut telat karena Bangkok itu macetnya minta ampun. Nggak beda dengan Jakarta. Tapi akhirnya sampai juga walaupun mepet banget waktunya. 

Dari Jakarta memang sudah pesen tiket lewat www.hotels2thailand.com. Kalau dibandingin web sebelumnya yang sempat saya lihat dan nyaris booking di situ, servis yang disediain hotels2thailand.com ini jauh lebih ok. Ada fasilitas anter jemput segala sekalipun hotel kita bukan hotel bintang 4 atau 5. Harganya juga nggak mahal. Per orang sekitar USD 35.

Begitu lihat kapalnya, wuihhh keren banget. Dibanding kapal yang lain, ini lebih besar, bertingkat dan mewah. Sebelum naik kapal, kita disuguhin tarian dari crewnya. 

Dinnernya di dek lantai 2 dengan sajian buffet. Nggak perlu rebutan meja karena begitu masuk kapal, kita dikasih pin no meja. Makanannya enak semua. Mulai dari sushi, tom yum, nasi, salad, soup, buah, kari dan banyak lagi. Sampai bingung mau makan apa duluan. Daannnn....makan malam di atas kapal sambil nikmatin pemandangan sekeliling Chao Phraya termasuk Grand Palace itu ternyata fantastis banget. Ditambah lagi ada home band. Tamu-tamu heboh dance di depan home band. Ramai tapi nggak bakalan ganggu yang lainnya. Suasananya cocok buat honeymooners. 

Segelas red wine tambah bikin nggak nyesel beli paket ini. Cruisenya mulai dari jam 7 sampai jam 9 malam.

Late Post

7 Oktober: Jakarta - Bangkok
Jam 4.45 pagi saya, mama dan bulik sudah duduk manis di Starbucks Terminal 3 Soekarno-Hatta. Karena ambil first flight, jadinya nggak ada delay. Sampai di Bangkok jam 12. Kita nginep di Tara Place. Dari review di Agoda dan Tripadvisor, hasilnya bagus. Dan memang bener. Biarpung hotelnya kecil tapi bersih, hoteliernya ramah dan nolong banget. Di lobby selalu tersedia snack dan pilihan minuman (kopi/teh). Gratis dari pagi sampai malam. Untungnya bisa early check in tanpa harus berbelit-belit.

Baru kali ini jalan sama bulik, agak kagok juga sih. Belum apa-apa, rencana sudah mulai agak buyar :). Daripada jalan kaki keliling area hotel seperti maunya bulik, akhirnya saya ajak ke MBK (Mah Boon Krong). MBK ini semacam ITC kalau di Jakarta. Barang-barang murah dan bisa ditawar. Malamnya jalan ke Khaosan Road yang nggak jauh dari hotel. Jalan ke Khaosan Road ini bawaannya pingin cobain semua makanan. Pad Thai, buah potong, es puter kelapa, mie, juice segar dan segalam macem makanan menggiurkan lainnya. Sayangnya lagi jalan sama mama dan bulik yang bukan tukang makan :)

8 Oktober
Setelah dapet info dari resepsionis hotel, kita naik van dari Victory Monument ke Pattaya. Lumayan pegel juga. Sekitar 3.5 jam perjalanan. Untungnya van berhenti nggak jauh dari pantai. Karena mama nggak mau nonton kabaret, jadinya cuma duduk-duduk aja di pantainya. 

Nemu tempat makan yang enak banget menunya. Tom yumnya seger biarpun ada jejak santan, ikan asam manisnya juga beda dari asam manis lainnya. Puas juga minum es kelapa. Sampai pesen 2. Balik ke Bangkok naik bus jurusan Ekkamai. 

Karena sampai di Bangkok pas jam pulang kantor, kena macet parah sepanjang Sukhumvit. Dari Sukhumvit ke hotel hampir 2 jam. Untung kanan kiri banyak mall dan toko. Jadi nggak terlalu bosen.

Malemnya ke Khaosan lagi sementara 2 nenek tinggal di hotel. Jalan sendiri itu memang lebih bebas. Bisa lebih santai lihat-lihat sambil mikir kalau tempat begini ada di Jakarta, pasti langsung digerebek FPI dan teman-temannya. Dan pastinya, kesampaian juga bikin tattoo :)

Caramel Macchiato

Definisi Caramel Macchiato menurut Starbucks Coffee Company:

Masih versi Starbucks, Caramel Macchiato adalah campuran dari:

Setelah beberapa lama penasaran sama minuman ini, akhirnya waktu nunggu boarding di Don Mueang minggu lalu, saya coba pesen pakai non fat milk, nggak pakai whipped cream dan sedikit es. Karena takut terlalu manis, ngaduknya pelan-pelan biar caramelnya nggak kecampur semua. Cicipan pertama? Hmmm not bad. Nggak terlalu manis dan kopinya juga nggak bikin kaget. Suka!

Bisa jadi alternatif kalau mampir ke Starbucks lagi selain pesanan yang selama ini itu-itu aja. Sekitar hot tea dengan variannya atau iced signature chocolate :). Apalagi sejak si Pana Cotta Frappuccino nggak keluar lagi.  

Halyang Dream

Uhhh.....love this song too. From Kang Gary's new album - Gary 2002 called Halyang Dream. When you search Halyang, you will find a lot of version but found this one more interesting:  people who're able to enjoy life without a fixed job.

John Park's voice, surprisingly he has a deep and soft voice, gives additional point to this song. I knew John Park from Running Man. With his facial expression and sometimes funny comments, I still can't believe he has such a beautiful voice. Amazed! Indeed, do not judge the book by its cover :). The song itself really has a deep meaning.

Ngayal bisa dance kayak gini *badanku yang nggak lentur/gerakan tari yang nggak pernah luwes*.

Itadakimasu...

Sudah  hampir sebulan ini masak sendiri di kost buat menu maksi di kantor. Sejak punya rice cooker yang bisa buat numis dan rebus sama punya kulkas portabel. Awalnya berat banget untuk majuin jam bangun dari 07.30 ke 06.30 khusus buat masak dan siapin sarapan. Tapi akhirnya bisa juga.

Menu masakan sih nggak banyak variasi. Pokoknya yang gampang aja. Kadang rebusan kacang merah, jagung, wortel mini sama brokoli. Kadang jagung diganti kentang. Nah kalau jadwalnya makan nasi, biasanya nasi merah plus tumis jamur-tahu (kadang pakai edamame) sama ayam teriyaki atau nasi merah, tumis jamur-tahu sama telur dadar. Apalagi sejak nemu kikoman teriyaki....jadi makin rajin beli fillet dada ayam :)

Kalau buat sarapan, selalu diusahain untuk makan buah. Ganti-gantilah. Antara pisang sama mangga atau mangga aja atau mix apel sama pear. Nah...kalau apel sama pear ini sudah pasti sukses jadi obat pencahar. Begitu selesai, nggak lama langsung mules :)

Seru juga sih masak sendiri. Tiap hari sibuk mikirin belanjaan dan menu buat besoknya.

Almond Milk

Entah kenapa, dari kemarin kepingin banget minum almond atau cashew milk. Padahal belum pernah sama sekali. Akhirnya setelah melewati beberapa pertimbangan, pilihan jatuh ke almond milk. Jadilah beli di Re Juve lewat go jek. Harga per botol isi 425ml Rp. 50,000 +  Rp. 10,000 buat ongkos go jek. 

Nggak lama, pesenan saya pun tiba. Sebotol almond milk dingin ada di dalem paper bag yang menurut saya sih terlalu besar banget ukurannya. Harusnya Re Juve sediain paper bag ukuran mini juga yang cukup untuk 1 atau 2 botol.

Warnanya sih lucu. Creamy gitu. Tapi waktu mau coba untuk minum dari botolnya, wuiihhh baunya agak langu walaupun nggak selangu baunya soy milk. Hmmm....sempat jeda sejenak sebelum nerusin minum. Dan daripada kena baunya lagi, saya tuang dulu ke gelas. Tegukan pertama cukup bikin kaget. Nggak terlalu manis dan teksturnya nutty. Masih terasa remahan almondnya. Karena saya bukan penggemar susu, butuh proses di lidah dan otak untuk bisa sinkron. Baru setelah tegukan ke 4, mulai bisa ngerasain enaknya.

Sebelum pesen, sempat browsing manfaatnya almond milk ini.

Kang Gary

Okay, first of all this Kang is not as in 'akang' in Sundanese but instead a Korean surname. And yup...I am a new fan of this man. 

I knew him from a variety show called Running Man which then took me to his hip hop duo - Leessang where he takes part as the rapper. He also wrote all lyrics. Some of his songs are now listed on my playlist as my daily companion.

What I most admire from him is the way he splits himself between Gary as a member of Running Man team and Gary as a musician. Gary in Running Man is playful, witty, cheesy in terms of his Monday Couple scene, has a great sense of humor, not too ambitious but whenever necessary or when it comes to individual race, he can give all his strength and brain. While as a musician, I can see his passion thru his live performance on youtube. 

He shares his life and love story thru his songs. Pursuit of Happiness and Remembrance for example. I can feel his pain, his love, his pressure but apart from that, his courage to live to the fullest. His love for his mom - he listened to her words to not to get into fight and when she told him that he can do variety show, he decided to take the offer. And not to mention, the way he adored his ex on You're The Answer To Guy Like Me. Sweet.

What Is In The Name

Selama ini nggak pernah tahu arti nama saya selain sama seperti nama kitab di Perjanjian Lama. Dan nggak berusaha untuk cari tahu juga. Sampai akhirnya Jumat malam kemarin waktu ikut persiapan ngajar Sunday School karena topiknya tentang ratu Ester.

Dalam bahasa Persia, Ester artinya bintang. Wuihhh....nggak nyangka sama sekali. Itukah sebabnya saya suka lihatin awan? *cari korelasi antara awan sama bintang*. Sedangkan dalam bahasa Yahudi padanan katanya adalah Hadasa yang artinya pohon murad. Pohon murad adalah tanaman Palestina yang tingginya bisa mencapai 10m sementara daun dan bunganya bisa untuk bahan wangi-wangian.

Dan saya beneran terkesima bin takjub waktu tahu artinya. Karena sejujurnya, saya nggak begitu suka sama nama depan saya. Entahlah...mungkin karena cara orang manggil atau pemenggalan katanya yang terasa nggak pernah pas. Itu sebabnya dari jaman SD dulu saya berharap orang panggil saya dengan 3 huruf terakhir dari nama kedua dan itu baru kejadian pas kuliah.

Di dokumen penting, ada 2 versi penulisan nama saya. Ada dokumen yang nulisnya Esther Octavia (kalau nggak salah di surat baptis) sementara di dokumen lain tertera Ester Oktavia. Versi yang pertama sempat dipakai selama SD sebelum akhirnya ganti ke versi kedua. Lupa alasannya. Dan yang bener yang mana pun nggak tahu karena mama juga lupa :).

Leessang Blues

Kalau inget-inget lucu juga. Dulu saya heran banget sama temen-temen yang bisa addict dengan K-Drama dan KPop. Tapi ternyata sekarang saya pun ketularan walaupun nggak parah banget sih. Cuma sebatas Gong Yoo (drama), Running Man (variety show), Leessang dan soundtrack dramanya GY (musik) aja.

Btw, Han Namja-nya Kim Jong Kook juga enak sebenernya tapiiiiiiiii nggak tahan denger suaranya KJK. Gimana ya....kayak ketahan di tenggorokan gitu.

Btw, Leesang feat Jung In (dan ternyata banyak lagunya Leesang yang featuring sama Jung In) ini keren banget. Suaranya Jung In yang powerful match banget sama suaranya Gil yang khas dan sedikit husky ditimpalin sama rap-nya Gary.

Bisa diprediksi, beberapa minggu ke depan lagu ini bakalan diulang-ulang terus di Iphone/Ipad/laptop hehehehe.

Running Man

Waktu dulu liat variety show ini, langsung pindah channel. Nggak ngerti dimana lucunya, puyeng liat Hangyul (huruf Korea) yang selalu pop up di layar TV, liatin segerombolan orang lari dalam gedung dan kayak slapstik gitu. 

Tapi semuanya mendadak buyar gara-gara nonton Running Man episode 175 daaaannnnnn *drum roll* tentu saja karena Gong Yoo bintang tamunya. Tapi akhirnya, terlepas dari ketawanya GY yang nularin dan crunchy juga betapa kompetitifnya dia, acara ini ternyata memang lucu. Banget. Sepanjang nonton ketawa nggak berhenti sampai perut rasanya kram. Coba nonton episode lain juga sama. Parahnya, One Channel nayanginnya Sabtu malem di saat orang rumah udah pada tidur. Jadilah ketawa sambil ditutupin bantal biar nggak berisik. 

Saya salut banget sama ini acara. Mulai dari tema, games, biaya produksi yang pastinya nggak murah, properti yang bener-bener disiapin sampai daya tahan anggota team. Hampir 1.5 jam acara, lebih dari setengahnya mereka mesti lari. Sesuai tag linenya - don't walk, run.

Anggota Running Man punya julukan, karakter dan background music masing-masing.

• Yoo Jae Suk: Grasshopper / Yoomes Bond (YJS spy pertama di Running Man dengan senjata andalan pistol air) / Yooruce Willis (di episode awal dia sering niru aktingnya Bruce Willis di Die Hard) / Suk Suk brothers (kalau lagi dipasangin sama Ji Suk Jin) / Yoo Lee brothers (barengan Lee Kwang Soo). Saya suka YJS. Selain mukanya yang lucu apalagi kalau kacamatanya dilepas, celetukannya juga lucu. Terutama kalau lagi berantem sama Jong Kook atau Ha Ha. Dan paling ngemong kalau bintang tamunya kurang aktif atau pendiem. YJS suka banget nge-dance sampai-sampai RM episode 175 yang temanya Suspect, dia dipenjara dengan kejahatan selalu ngedance dimana pun dan kapan pun tiap kali ada musik. Salah satu background music buat YJS Step By Step-nya NKOTB.

• Kim Joong Kook:  Commander aka Spartakook / Tiger / Mr. Capable / Kookie / Spartace (kalau pas lagi 1 team sama Song Ji Hyo) / Coach Kook / Kim Joong Kook and his 2 kids (Kang Gary dan Ha Ha). Joong Kook anggota paling kuat dan paling cepet. Dia bisa ngeblok 5 orang sekaligus waktu name tag elimination. Makanya dia paling ditakutin dan paling 'disebelin' sama yang lain. Semua selalu kompakan buat cabut name tag dia :). Tapi paling lemah kalau lawannya cewek. KJK ini juga bawel banget. Di mobil kalau mau ke lokasi game atau saat lomba. Timnya pasti dicerewetin. Background music-nya KJK yang cukup sering dipasang What We Need Is A Hero - OST Beowulf.

• Ha Ha: Haroro (karena pernah pakai topi dan kacamata kayak Pororo) / Kiddie (tingkah dan cara ngomongnya suka kayak anak kecil) / Betrayer Club (barengan Ji Suk Jin dan Kwang Soo) / Kim Jong Kook and kids (bareng Gary). Ha Ha ini nyalinya kecil. Nggak berani sama iguana, takut ketinggian, nggak berani terjun, nggak berani naik roller coaster. Tapi celetukan dan ekspresinya lucu. Apalagi kalau lagi pura-pura ngambek dan marahin produser karena gamesnya dianggep nggak menguntungkan tinggi badannya yang kurang. Hobinya godain bintang tamu cewek. Tapi begitu dia married, berubah 180 derajat. Mendadak sengit banget karena nggak bisa godain lagi :). Theme song Haroro nggak lain nggak bukan soundtracknya Pororo.

• Lee Kwang Soo:  Giraffe / Betrayer Club / Kwangvatar / Prince of Asia (karena fansnya banyak banget pas RM tour Asia) / Icon of Bad Luck / Kwangtoad / Kwangja (kalau lagi didandanin cewek). Kwang Soo ini selalu apes kalau lagi games tapi biangnya pengkhianat demi bisa menang atau lolos dari name tag elimination. Barengan Jae Suk dan Suk Jin, selalu jadi trio pertama penghuni penjara karena selalu jadi yang pertama kena cabut name tagnya. Salah satu theme song buat Kwang Soo adalah Saint Agnes and The Burning Train dari Sting.

• Ji Suk-Jin: Big Nose Old Brother / Impala / Race Starter (saat dia kena eliminasi berarti itu tandanya race beneran dimulai) / Betrayer Club. Suk Jin ini paling lemah di antara semua. Sebel liatnya. Nggak pernah mau beneran usaha. Makanya suka kasihan sama partnernya kalau gamesnya love/couple race. Nggak bakalan pernah menang. Tapi sukanya ngatur dan entah ya...kayaknya pingin dapet screen shot banyak makanya suka bikin yang aneh-aneh. Theme song: The House You Live In - JYP.

• Song Ji Hyo: Ace / Blank Ji (karena ekspresi mukanya yang suka nge-blank) / Spartace / Bad Ji Hyo / Goddess of Luck. Ji Hyo satu-satunya cewek di tim tetapnya RM tapi dia kuat dan cepet banget. Moment Monday Couple bareng Gary selalu lucu tapi belakangan intensitasnya makin berkurang. Theme song: OST Angry Bird.

• Kang Gary: Peaceful Gary / Sudden Commander / Mr. Random Capable / Straight Gary / Monday Boyfriend. Gary ini anggota yang paling santai makanya suka terkesan males. Dia nggak seambisius KJK tapi terkadang bisa nunjukin skillnya dan menang. Terutama kalau 1-1 games. Dia juga paling nggak bisa bohong, selalu fair play dan termasuk yang takut dengan ketinggian. Di episode-episode awal, sering banget dikerjain Yoo Jae Suk karena terlalu serius merhatiin. Apalagi waktu lomba foto. Selalu masuk frame dengan tampilan muka yang super kalem. Komen-komennya juga lucu banget. Theme song: lagu-lagunya Leessang.

  

Satu hal yang bikin saya merhatiin tiap episode. Semua merk atribut yang mereka pakai (kaos, topi, sepatu) pasti diplester atau untuk merk mobil dan brand-brand yang ada di lokasi main, diblur. Kayaknya mereka sama sekali nggak mau ketempelan 'promosi nggak sengaja'.  

Dan dari kemarin, saya jadi punya aktifitas baru di kost. Nonton Running Man mulai episode 1 di youtube :)
